Introducing the newest member of the Bazeport team!

We are pleased to welcome Leif-Christian as our new Business Development Manager. With extensive experience in the shipping industry, we are fortunate to have him join the Bazeport team.

Welcome, Leif-Christian! How has your first weeks at Bazeport been so far?

Thank you, great to be onboard! What I have enjoyed most of all during my first days at Bazeport, is the welcoming atmosphere among the colleagues. Getting to know my new coworkers and already spending some time together has been really fun. I don’t know many other companies where you get to go boating in the Archipelago outside Porsgrunn/Helgeroa in Norway together with your boss, already during the first week. Or where you get to challenge your new colleagues with a padel match during your introduction week in the company. Of course, there has been some work involved as well and I’ve received some cheerful and intense training sessions. It’s clear that I still have a lot to learn. However, I am already looking forward to contributing to crew welfare within the shipping industry.

We're eager to learn more about you. Can you tell us a bit about your background and what previous experiences have prepared you for your role as Business Development Manager at Bazeport?

The shipping industry is well known to me, and I basically fell in love with ships and boats already when I was just a few weeks old, and my parents took me by boat to our summer cottage in the archipelago outside Vaasa in Finland. With a childhood spent in the Finnish archipelago, I developed a profound passion for the sea early on that continued to drive my personal and professional pursuits. In 2011, I finished my education with a degree in economics and in maritime management. During and after my studies, I worked at sea. Before I came ashore in 2014, I worked as 1st officer on a Finnish Ro-Ro vessel in the Mediterranean, North Sea and Baltic Sea. After that, my first job ashore was as Onboard Training Manager at the Maritime Academy and Training Center Aboa Mare where I managed the onboard training for our degree students. A few years later I started managing the marketing and sales for Aboa Mare’s short courses aimed at shipping companies and authorities who need high-end sustainable STCW training like e.g. LNG or methanol training. After nearly ten years under the same roof, I felt I was ready for new adventures. For me, Bazeport was a perfect match when I saw the job ad. Bazeport and I both have a passion for shipping and quality products & services.

What are your primary responsibilities in your new position, and how do you plan to leverage your skills to achieve your goals at Bazeport?

As Business Development Manager at Bazeport my primary responsibility is making sure that shipping owners and their representatives who are looking to further improve their crew welfare, entertainment and information sharing solutions, know about Bazeport and what we can provide for them.

Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?

I come with many nicknames as I was quite active in student life during my studies. As I earlier (not anymore:) had a habit of singing in the shower, I auditioned for a spot in the university choir and luckily managed to be accepted in. We had the most amazing parties and I think, there probably were some concerts involved as well. As I like to sing aloud (very loud) during university parties I attended, some people called me Hanken’s Pavarotti.
